We were protected!

So this week was good because of General Conference. I liked all the talks as always. Elder Thomas had his Dad show up to General Conference. His Dad lives in this mission and was less active. Elder Thomas was living with his Mom in Utah since it was a divorce situation. So he hadn't talked to his Dad for like a couple of yrs and then he came on his mission to where his Dad lives and actually served in his ward and would have Dinner with his Dad every week. 

We took a member to go visit Brother Carty and they enjoyed each other and talked for like an hour and a 1/2 non stop which is good since hopefully they are good friends now. We visited some churches this week. The church that spoke Spanish was actually the nicest church. They gave us their info and seemed excited about coming, even though they couldn't understand us well when we were trying to tell them about the disaster preparedness summit. Our Team up who was driving us around that night for talking to churches actually turned into the wrong lane on a busy road. No one was coming; we were protected that no one was coming, the lord watches out for his missionaries. The guy behind us started honking like crazy to let him know and of course Elder Yellowplume and my companion were like ehhh wrong lane.

So Brother Chastain up in Dahlonega one of my old areas has still not actually got baptized but he met with the Stake President this last week and some other missionaries told me that word of Wisdom in no longer an issue with him, and that after meeting with the Stake President he wanted to get baptized as soon as possible so hopefully this Wednesday. 

So that Black family the Perrys who have 8 kids and the husband is always away driving a truck. Well we went with the Home Teacher Brother coleman to go visit there family since his companion doesn't go with him. Sister Perry is expecting again. She will have 9 kids and is only in her early 30s. The home teacher  tried to act happy when she told him but you could tell he was like another kid in his mind.

Had Lunch with the Hindu family and the Husband was able to be there since he works for the government. We handed them over to the Suwanee missionaries since they live in their area. The Hindu food is always really good but really spicy. 

Also we were having dinner at a members house and a hot air balloon landing in the street a couple streets down and was having problems getting back in the air which was interesting. 

We also visited with Brother Hyers and talked about the priesthood with them. He is a member who has parkinson's that lives right behind our apartment. 

Played B-ball and poison and bump and around the world this last P-day. So just a lot of B-ball which is always fun.

10 things Elder Chad Vernon has learned on his mission

1. That family is very special and precious.
2. Be Humble, rely on the Lord for help to overcome afflictions.
3. Prayer- you can always turn to the Lord.
4. Be Patient-sometimes if you wait just a little longer things will work out.
5. Camel packs were created by divine power to keep missionaries hydrated.
6. Being clean is important.
7. Trust in leaders.
8. Talk with others, it is good for you.
9. The scriptures  when read can help.
10. Joseph Smith is a prophet, he did see God the Father and Jesus Christ.

Today we got the letter from the Mission President to work out travel arrangements for Elder Chad Vernon to come home!  He has a little over 3 months left, he has had a good experience serving the Lord.  It hasn't been easy because many people won't listen but others are ready.  Here is what he did this past week:

So this week we were able to visit the Perry family again. They still haven't gotten there new member lessons and seem excited for them. We also did service for an Egyptian family. The Mom spoke Arabic and fed us a ton after service. We gave them an English Book of Mormon but might need to find an Arabic one. I went on exchange with Elder Thomas this week and we tracked a bunch and ran into a former investigator that said in a couple weeks after her knee gets better she will start coming to church.  We also got back in with a potential Kuen and he committed to a baptismal date and had actually read 10 pgs of the Book of Mormon. 

There are deer in the city here all the time just walking around.

No facebook changes yet. I wore the canteen tie for zone meeting and a bunch of missionaries really liked it. 

So another good week. The weather was really nice a couple days. Looks like were getting into the fall weather which is super nice in Georgia.

Elder Chad Jason Vernon is currently serving in Sugar Hills, Georgia with a Native American Companion.
He is doing well as he learns and grows from serving others.  He is on the downhill side of his mission as he will come home January 9th.  We got the word from the mission president.

Chad enjoys doing service and teaching the gospel on his mission. On preparation days his favorite activity is playing basketball.  He always writes his family too. For me as his mom I am always very thankful to get his letter and hear his news.  He is trying his hardest find those who the Lord has prepared to hear the gospel.
Sometimes it can get a bit frustrating when you run into people who are rude that he wrote about this past week.  Chad says he prayed for the man.  I was happy Chad chose to handle it how he did. That is what the Savior would want, way to go Chad.

Elder Vernon has only 6 months left on his mission but 2 of his brothers will have gotten married while he has been serving the Lord.  He says he will make it to the other kids weddings for sure!

He is happy and doing well serving the Lord.  His mission is growing in numbers even though part of it was taken to the Macon, Georgia mission.  It is an exciting time for him to be out to see all the changes happening and to be a part of it.
